Theft from vehicle

Dear residents there has been an increase in theft from motor vehicle in POPLAR, with offenders targeting parked cars and vans to steal items left inside. Vehicle crime is one of the commonly reported offences, with several incidents recorded each month in the are.

Residents in POPLAR have reported vehicle being broken into and damaged, tolls, bags, and valuables stolen from cars or vans. Offences occurring mainly overnight or in poorly lit areas.

Crime prevention advise:

Remove valuables. Do not leave bags, tolls, laptop, phones or cash inside vehicles.

Lock vehicles properly.

Check mirrors fold in or indicators flash to confirm it is lock.

Park in well-lit locations with CCTV or high footfall.

If possible use secure car parks or garages.

For van protect tools by store in lockable boxes or cabinets inside the vehicle.

Mark tools and record serial numbers.

Install alarm, steering locks or immobilisers.

Consider dash board camera.

Avoid leaving insurance documents or logbook in the vehicles.

Please report any suspicious activity or vehicle break-ins to police via 101, or 999 in emergency.
